She Heard a Call
But Martha was distracted with much serving. Luke 10:40
The Martha in Me

She swept, she washed
She walked through the house
She wiped and mopped
She was strong and crouse
.
She ran the vacuum and fed the children
She wasn't going to stop now
Her hands were still willing
Her heart was still loud
.
One day she heard a call
She wondered what it was about
He said "Martha, your portion!"
In awe she sat down
.
And He wiped all her tears
And she made her vows
Then He changed her fate
And she is resting now
Maybe you are a better human being than I am, and you don’t really relate to Martha (Luke 10:38–42), who was overwhelmed and trying to make everything perfect while having Jesus in her home. Or perhaps you are a little like me, and you also spent years wondering why Mary is blessed by the Lord when all she did was sit down and listen.
I'll go beyond here and dare to state that if you are with me on this one, you can look around and point out a thousand other Marys today, who are sitting next to you inside your own house, and they are in love with the Lord, but they are simply not working with you.
Here's where all my insecurities laid for many years when it came to the Martha identity within me: but I was busy serving You all along! How can anything else be better?
One day Jesus changed my point of view, and taught me that this is a calling for His church, who is just too busy doing all these things for Him that He didn’t even ask for. All of us who have been so burned out and occupied serving Him, and didn't bother sitting at His feet to learn anymore when He was teaching.
The good news are that Jesus calls Martha back:
"You are anxious and troubled by many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."
Luke 10:41,42
In another book in the Bible, Martha is visited by Jesus again. This time the circumstances are much different and she is no longer busy. She is in tears and mourning the loss of her brother. When Jesus arrives to see them, she is right at His side; she is not distracted. She looks at Him in the eyes and boldly asks:
“Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” John 11:21,22
To me this is a vow, this is an annoyinting she brough before Jesus. She simply believed. The same person who was nearly blinded by her own pursue for perfection before, is now the first to give perfection a name. And His name was Jesus, and He rose Martha's brother from the dead.
